Oliver Wendell Holmes once quoted, “most of us go to our graves with our music still inside us, unplayed.”
Who am I? What am I here to do? – I am here for a reason; for a cause; I am a reason for hope; a reason to pray for; and what is the reason for all this action and reaction in my life? And if I cease to exist, then why was that so? – In a nutshell, the PURPOSE of one’s presence; the soul curry of our being; the reason for us being where we are. Why did we at all come to this planet earth of ours – there was a reason for it. Have we discovered it? Have we done anything to fructify it? Each one of us is unique. Hence, it is imperative to realise that the purpose of each one’s existence too, is so.
We can find our purpose if we behave and exist as us – as ourselves; to not change the core of our being and to accept you as who you are; as an individual with a given level of whimsicalities, qualities, quirks. The world and all those who, people, will try to modify you and make you become someone they wish you to be. Be resilient. Be strong and be firm. Be true to yourself. In doing so, you may just stumble across the real purpose of your being. Why you were born Miss or Mister ABC and not XYZ; to fulfil which role? Which duty?
And believe you me, once you do find the purpose of your being, you will rest easy. Fulfilling a duty is easy. Determining what duty, your calling, is to fulfil is the difficult part. When you are actually on this path to discovering the real you and the reason for you being where you are – try to search for your zone of happiness. Explore around this theme to find your true calling. You are likely to beget all your unanswered questions about life in this sphere, in this radar.
Or else, ruminate over something which is etched in your mind as a life-altering experience. Your purpose of existence could be woven with this. Do this exercise – but try not to thrash it out by yourself. Work it out with your trusted aides. Your friends and those you call your folks; with your own lot; with your shelter from the sun and the wind.
Then, try to crystallise your thoughts into clean and clear words of action; those, which make sense to you and even to others. Not just ramblings or musings of a mind in search of a base node, but an action plan, so to say. After this, take a breath and envision all that can happen if you actually lived out your life mission. The effect of realising your vision and its turnover in terms of the effect it will have on others’ lives and in which way so.
The next step is to set yourself a timetable of sorts. Envision out your dream but with a time scale of what you wish to achieve and by when. Write in a language which gives you a finite enactment – a real framework that should be done along with a time limit. This document should contain words which can be understood by others, not just fancy terms which only you can follow.
Also, this essay of what you actually should do should be real-time; which is a job which is broken up into sub-parts and piece bits. In addition, these should be bits of work which are do-able. Not things which you have imagined in a flight of fantasy.
The two most important days in your life are the day you are born and the day you find out why. — Mark Twain
Remember – our purpose can be fulfilled only when we actually do something concrete. When our step two logically follows step one of our actions. Then, take a good, long and hard look at who all can go about doing these jobs for you. You must have a team which will help you plod along in this sojourn. Identify it. Earmark, designate and assign roles to differing people. And then GET GOING.
